Green Energy Network – Asia (GEN-A) conference was held in Bali city of Indonesia on 15-16 May 2025 which was organized by the Griffith Asia Institute in collaboration with GEN-A partners including the Institute for Essential Services Reform (IESR), the Pakistan-China Institute, and Climate Smart Ventures. The conference was formally opened by the Honorable Dr. Shezra Mansab Ali Kharal, Minister of State for Climate Change, Pakistan, and Mr. Zainal Arifin, Executive Vice President of Renewable Energy, PT PLN Persero, Indonesia.
Mr. Shah Jahan Mirza, Managing Director, Private Power and Infrastructure Board (PPIB) participated the conference virtually. Speaking as a panelist in the session themed “Pricing IPP Structures,” he outlined Pakistan’s strategic efforts to boost investment in renewable energy (RE) through effective risk allocation, sustainable pricing mechanisms, and enhanced project bankability. Mr. Mirza emphasized the importance of stable policy and regulatory frameworks, underscoring PPIB’s use of robust contractual tools such as the Energy Purchase Agreement (EPA) and Implementation Agreement (IA) to mitigate policy risks. He also advocated for regular stakeholder engagement to ensure long-term alignment with RE goals. The session was concluded with a detailed discussion and Q&A segment, where Mr. Mirza provided thoughtful and comprehensive responses to participants' queries.
The event brought together over 40 participants from more than 10 countries, both in person and online. Attendees comprised senior representatives from the energy and utilities sectors, financial institutions, independent power producers (IPPs), think tanks, and data providers.
