Fifth CAREC Institute Annual Research Conference

Mr. Shah Jahan Mirza, Managing Director of the Private Power and Infrastructure Board (PPIB), was a featured panelist at the Fifth CAREC Institute Annual Research Conference, held in Islamabad on 29-30 May 2025. Speaking during Session 2 on the Energy Investment Eco-System, Mr. Mirza highlighted Pakistan’s strategic shift toward clean and sustainable energy, outlining key reforms, policy measures, and investment opportunities driving the country's energy transition.

He emphasized that Pakistan has achieved 55% clean energy share in total generation by 2024, with a target of 60% installed clean capacity by 2030. Mr. Mirza underscored the government’s commitment to competitive bidding, early retirement of fossil-based plants, and enabling battery storage and EV infrastructure to support the green transition.

He also emphasized the critical role of SMEs in the renewable energy supply chain, the potential of net-metering (now exceeding 5,100 MW), and the importance of frameworks like CTBCM to open up the energy market to direct buyer-seller contracts.

His remarks reflected a clear message: Pakistan is open for clean energy investments, driven by policy, innovation, and sustainability.
